About Me

Hi there, I’m so glad you stopped by. Welcome to my life. This is where you will see how easy it is to make delicious dishes, pair them with cheap tasty wines, and discuss lifestyle topics that will improve your daily grind.

I started cooking and learning new recipes at a very young age. My grandmother was the matriarch in our family when I was growing up, and her food was the center of family gatherings. When all of her grandkids were growing up, we remember her famous biscuits and gravy. She also would make banana nut bread almost every holiday. She would even make one for her doctor who gave her new knees. Food was her way of showing love and comfort. She would have been 98 this year, and she lived a beautiful authentic life. Our family is incredibly blessed to have had her on this earth for so long. My Granny’s smile and laugh would fill the room with joy. I can still remember her moving and banging pots and pans in the kitchen. That is how she showed love, in the kitchen cooking her favorite dishes. She later shared with me that when she was younger, she didn’t know how to cook, but after marrying her first husband, her culinary adventure began. My granny was proof that you don’t need to know everything about cooking to fill people’s hearts with joy by making something decadent and delicious. And it doesn’t have to be difficult to make tantalizing healthy dishes. Flash forward twenty years…

When I turned twenty, I started to learn her recipes, and taught myself different techniques to create stellar dishes. I wanted to soak up all the knowledge about food because I met my person. On January 1, 2008, I met Lee Morgan at a party with mutual friends. He got my number by being interested in running, but later I will find out he hates running. Two and a half months later he proposed, and I said yes to forever. Then six months later we got married. After a year of marriage, he commissioned into the Air Force, and we started our crazy adventure.

Our first duty station was Tyndall AFB, FL. This place was gorgeous. The base had an almost private beach where the sand was white resembling snow. We were lucky enough to live in a brand new base house. After nine months, we moved to Tinker AFB, OK. It was my dream ever since I was a little girl to attend OU, and acquire my degree in English. I did just that, and graduated in 2013. One year later, Lee’s boss told him we could have the opportunity to live in Anchorage, AK at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Being a little nervous, we instantly said yes. The summer of 2015 we went on our great North American road trip. We drove through Canada, and made Alaska our home. It was the most beautiful wildest place we have ever lived. After living in Anchorage, AK for five years, we had the opportunity to take our adventure to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. We instantly said yes, and that answer began the craziest transcontinental move. The Covid-19 pandemic started in March 2020, and our departure date was May 13th, 2020. This North American road trip was a once in a lifetime trip, and we are so thankful we were able to experience such an adventure. There were literally no travelers at our camping sites until we got closer to the US-Canadian border. The wildlife was exceptionally plentiful, and we saw so many different types of animals. Maybe I will devote a blog post about this crazy experience we had. Now we are loving the opportunity to live at the amazing Air Force Academy. It’s literally a dream come true.

I want this blog to be a place where you can laugh a little, get motivation to get through this crazy life because life is tough, and create joy through food and wine. Cooking should not be intimidating, but relaxing. Having a healthy lifestyle is not a difficult concept, but easy and achievable. I promise. My philosophy is 80/20. 80% of the time is devoted to eating healthy and moving your body, and 20% of your time is devoted to play. This can mean eating the whole darn pie, drinking the whole bottle of wine, or resting and doing whatever you want to do. When you convince yourself you are not on a diet, eating healthy is easy because you are not making yourself eat healthy, but you are wanting to because your body feels better. We are going to create recipes, have deep conversations, and pick each other up when life brings unexpected tribulations. Let’s start our journey. Why don’t you grab your apron, and cook with me! But first, wine.

Your Winey Chef,

Renee Morgan
